Pilar is a Spanish illustrator that lives in London. She does a lot of different stuff from fashion illustration to children’s book. Her work is quite poetic and her talent brings you to her own little world of Le Monde Lemon. We met her for the first time at our Christmas Special. Here is what we talked about.
Where are you from and what is your background?
I am from Extremadura, in the middle West of Spain. I arrived in London 2 years ago. I came to improve my English and to find opportunity to work. I am a freelance illustrator.
How did you start being an artist?
I did a degree in illustration in Toledo and then a master in graphic design in Madrid. I was also in an artist group, a sketch group. I like working with people. I have been doing illustration for a long time, it is a part of me.
What do you like doing most?
I like to experiment things. At the moment, I am doing mix technics with photography. Sometimes you are curious about things and you try. You don’t know how it is going to look but I like surprise. And then I met a photographeer in my English school. He needed some people to make a photo session so I said “yes I’ll work with you”. I wanted to do something different so I started drawing on the pictures.
How do you get your inspiration?
I try to be focused on the feelings. For instance, this picture, it is about creativity. It is based on a Spanich crown. The symbol is that if you have something on your head, it means that you have ideas, that you are curious about trying things.
What are you trying to communicate with your work?
A part of what I feel, and I like what people can feel as well when looking at my work, their sensations.
What being creative means to you?
Everything! I can not live without it.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am doing different freelance jobs. One of them is creating illustrations for a children book. It is about a little mouse that travels through Mexico.
What are your future projects?
This technique is my future project, to mix photography and illustration.
Do you have a dream project?
I just want to do what I like. I like sharing things. Me and my partner we are thinking about an idea, we take a photo and work on it.
Who is your favorite artist?
I like graphic designers and things that communicate things, very social. I really like Bansky because he is a social artist. Everybody can see it on the walls.
