Lisa is a talented young painter living in London. She has been sharing her amazing work with us on numerous occasions and we are always very proud to have her on the show. From how she fell into painting to what inspires her, here is what you need to know about Lisa Lee.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself ?
When I was 5, I thought I was going to grow up to be a ballerina. It didn’t happen. Still an artist thou. I’m Chinese, grew up in Newcastle, moved to London to do my degree in Illustration at University of Westminster, then I decided to stay.
How did you start painting and why?
I always liked drawing and painting since I was a child. People told me that I was quite good, so I carried on. I respond better to visual images than words.
How would you describe the type of art that you do ?
My paintings are colourful and decorative.
What do you like to paint and why ? How do you get your inspiration ?
I like to paint little animals and girls who look cute as dolls. Because for me they represent the innocence, and something positive. I get inspirations from fairytale stories, music and fashion…I appreciate the beautiful things in life. But because I’m more likely to be moved by stories which are dark and sad, there is always something crazy going on in my paintings.
Do you want to present one of your paintings ? What is the story behind it ?
Elizabeth Taylor was a true Diva. She was extremely beautiful, full of talents and very strong. In this painting, she’s at a fancy dress party wearing her famous emerald set from Bvlgari. Her face is young and pretty like a barbie doll, her bosom is saying that she’s a woman with power.
How do you feel about being an artist ? What does it bring you ?
Sometimes I do wonder why I can’t handle a normal Monday to Friday job, but I really can’t. I hate feeling trapped. I’m an artist, I can’t help it. I respond better to visual images rather than words, so painting is a better way to express what I feel at the time.
Who is your favorite artist and why ?
My favourite artist is Gustav Klimt. His work is always beautiful and romantic. Everytime I saw his work, I always looked at it for ages and ages and still couldn’t get enough.
What is your favorite piece of art and why ?
My favourite piece of art is oil painting La Mariee (The Bride) by Marc Chagall. I learnt about the painting through the film Notting Hill. As Julia Roberts’s character said : It feels like how love should be- floating through a dark blue sky.
What are you working on at the moment ?
I’m painting a portrait of my friend. She’s into Vampire stories. We will be expecting to see a sweet innocent face, full of glamour, and strong attitude.
Who would you bring at your prefect dinner ?
Mr. Bean! He’s a happy soul, a big kid. I like his vintage yellow mini car. He’s got good tastes.
Something you love and something you hate ?
I love sleep. I hate tomatoes.
Anything you want to add ?
World peace! (Beauty pageant style).
